RESTRICTIONS & POLICIES

A proper notarization.
Every time.

Understand the requirements before your visit. A fee or appointment request never overrides the notary’s legal duties.

BEFORE WE MEET

Requirements that protect every signing.

01

The signer must appear

This service is in person. Every person whose signature or sworn statement is notarized must personally appear. Phone calls, scanned signatures, or a video call do not replace an in-person appointment through this service.

02

Identity must be established

Bring an original, current government-issued ID. Virginia generally requires an approved ID with a photo and signature; DC accepts qualifying current government ID with a photo or signature. Lawful personal-knowledge or credible-witness alternatives require advance review. Special Virginia exceptions may apply to certain care-facility residents.

03

Participation must be voluntary

The notary must be satisfied about identity and willingness, and applicable capacity requirements. Pressure, suspected fraud, intoxication, inability to communicate, or uncertainty about understanding may prevent the act. Service is provided without unlawful discrimination.

04

Documents must be ready

Bring the entire document, completed except for signatures that must be made before the notary. Do not sign in advance unless the notary confirms the act permits it. No blank or incomplete certificates, backdating, false statements, or notarization of an absent person’s signature.

05

Choose your certificate with your adviser

The document recipient or a qualified legal adviser must tell you the required notarial act and wording. We do not select legal documents, draft provisions, advise on legal effect, or give legal, immigration, or tax advice. A notary is not acting as a notario público or attorney.

06

Arrange document witnesses

Independent witnesses are not included. Ask the document recipient or lawyer how many witnesses are needed and whether they must be disinterested. Arrange eligible witnesses and their identification in advance. A notarial witness act is not the same as providing document witnesses.

07

No conflicts of interest

A notary will decline prohibited transactions involving themselves, their spouse, or a direct beneficial interest. Virginia also restricts acts where the notary signs or is named in the document, subject to statutory exceptions.

08

Refusal & acceptance

A notary may decline when legal or identity requirements are unmet, the request is outside lawful authority, or the appointment is unsafe. Notarization is not approval of the transaction or proof that the document is enforceable, accurate, or acceptable to a receiving agency.

VIRGINIA & DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

Jurisdiction-specific restrictions.

Virginia / Northern Virginia

  • Virginia visits require a current Virginia notary commission.
  • Notarial fees are up to $10 per in-person act; separately agreed travel must reflect actual and reasonable expenses.
  • Do not request notarization of vital records or certification of records held by a court. Obtain official certified records from the issuing custodian.
  • Copy certification is limited to eligible nonpublic documents and the legally required comparison process.
  • For acts performed on or after July 1, 2026, a notarial record is required and must be retained for at least five years.

Washington, DC

  • A DC notary commission is required for this service in the District; it cannot be used for visits in Virginia.
  • In-person notarial fees are up to $5 per act. Travel must be agreed beforehand, reasonable, actual, and separately itemized in writing.
  • No notarization of birth, death, marriage, or divorce certificates, or restricted federal records such as original passports, FBI fingerprint records, I-9 forms, or 501(c)(3) determinations.
  • Blank or incomplete records and prohibited conflicts of interest prevent notarization.
  • Every act must be recorded in the notary’s journal. Language or translation requirements may require review or refusal.

Commission status and authority must be verified before any appointment is accepted. Electronic or remote authorization is separate and is not offered here. Apostille and authentication services are not currently available.

BUSINESS POLICIES

Clear expectations, without hidden conditions.

Appointments & delays

A requested time is not a confirmed appointment. Travel, weather, traffic, and facility access may affect arrival. No deadline, processing time, recipient acceptance, or same-day appointment is guaranteed. Tell us about urgent deadlines before confirming.

Client responsibilities

You arrange lawful facility access, required witnesses, correct documents, and recipient instructions. Confirm special accommodation or communication needs before travel. Askersson LLC does not decide whether a document meets your legal needs.

Fees, cancellations & refunds

Travel and notarization are separate charges. For a confirmed mobile appointment, previously agreed travel expenses remain payable once incurred, even if the customer cancels while the notary is on the way or after arrival, does not attend, or no notarization is completed. The travel charge is quoted at $50 but is reduced when actual, reasonable expenses are lower; it cannot exceed the agreed amount or the legal expense limit. Cancellation before departure incurs no travel charge when no travel expenses have been incurred. No fee is due for an unperformed notarial act. Advance payments for unperformed acts and travel amounts exceeding lawful incurred expenses are refunded. There is no separate cancellation penalty.

Concerns & corrections

Raise concerns through the contact method in your confirmation. Corrections may require a new appearance or certificate; there is no promise of backdating or replacing records outside legal procedures. These policies do not waive statutory rights or excuse negligence, fraud, or unlawful conduct.

PRIVACY

Only the details the visit requires.

The request form currently prepares a draft in your browser only. Email delivery is not connected: your name, email, phone, location, and request are not transmitted to Askersson LLC. You may choose to copy or download the draft. The form does not store your details in browser storage, and reloading or leaving the page clears the draft. A copied or downloaded request remains wherever you save or paste it. The fee estimate and checklist also run in your browser. None of these tools creates a reservation. No document upload, payment collection, account, or business-added analytics is provided.

Do not send Social Security numbers, ID images, or sensitive document contents through an unapproved channel. At an appointment, the notary records information required by the jurisdiction, which may include your name, address, identification method, document description, signature, date, and fees.

Required notarial journals are retained and may be disclosed or inspected as the law requires. We do not promise absolute secrecy or deletion of legally required records. Hosting providers may process standard access logs under their own policies.
